Depending on your setup, it could be easier to combine info from the access-ports (like: show mac 1-24) and info from DHCP-server, where you perhaps could get name,IP,MAC. Combining you could have name to switch-port, if that is what you ultimate are seeking. If however you are not about to document, but seek a culprit, then I would do as Infamus, from center do a 'show mac xxxxxx-xxxxxx' to find uplink-port for next switch and eventually find this switch's IP with 'show lldp info remote' sub-command.

I am trying to verify a few things in our documents, and changing a VLAN. I have a spreadsheet of mac accresses that I am working from, but when I go to the switches I have no luck finding what port it is. The devices I am working with are I.P based PA speakers, they do have a mac address as DHCP reservations work, but I think they don't process anything unless addressed specifically.

If A speaker boots up the mac shows up on the switch, but after 30 seconds or so it will vanish. I assume because it timed out and got purged from the mac address table. I know you can change the mac lifetime, etc but I am more curious if this can work another way. Can I somehow instead of looking at the mac address table have the switch run am ARP, etc and tell me what port this address is on, or specify this certain port and have it interrogate the attached device and output what it gets back? I guess something like CDP, but these are not Cisco nodes so they don't do CDP. I did try show mac address table and also the include filter, it shows if the speaker just booted then it vanishes. The show mac address table interface x/x/x also returns nothing.

I do have I.P addresses in another area, but they are not in the spreadsheet I am working off of so I was hoping to use only the mac address. Tried show ip arp incl using the first 4-6 characters and got nothing. This will work though if the device was just booted. I was thinking I could get the switch to do something like send an arp out int gi 1/0/1 ask what is attached then show the mac of the attached device(s).
