I was really enjoying the game, got a few missions in with no problems. Unfortunately now I can't seem to get the game to startup. I get to the Tropico 4 title screen, then everything goes black, no intro videos or main menu. Tried a number of things, restarted the computer, ran disk permissions, tried running the application in a window, nothing still black. Have yet to try trashing the whole thing and reinstalling, really really don't want to do that. It seems, looking at the app store, at least one other person running the game on an iMac has this same problem. Sent off an email to Feral support hopefully they'll get to the bottom of this.

We have not gotten any reports about that sort of issue with the MGS release. However time is still early, so it might happen. Hopefully Feral look into it though if it is a bug with the app store version only, or generally a bug overall. What you said got me thinking that since you haven't gotten any reports of similar problems with the MGS version that maybe it is a problem with the mac app store version. Sure enough Feral sends a response to my support ticket and confirms that game center seems to be the problem. I just had to sign out of it and Tropico 4 works.

I still don't know why the game played nice with game center for a full day before causing Tropico 4 not to run, but as long as I can play the game I'm happy. And the lesson here is, even if you have an itunes gift card just laying around use it for something else because the Mac Game Store version is always superior.because the Mac Game Store version is always superior. Well I wouldn't go so far as saying that. It is still dependent on publishers and developers posting bug fixes and getting them out. In this case, it was apples thing that was conflicting, and I'm sure Feral are hard at work figuring out the problem.

We have even come across apple-caused-bugs in the MGS App itself. Things we have told apple even during WWDC, and otherwise, and they still have bugs in their core software libraries we have to work around. So I feel for Feral. I think I have to walk away from Tropico for a while. I was playing it for the last couple of days and Feral support got back to me with a fix they wanted me to try for the game center problem. A terminal command that seemed to do the trick.

Loaded my game, completed the 5th mission and was looking forward to the next challenge when I noticed the next mission description 1/20. Wait that is mission one, something isn't right. Tried reloading my saves from the previous missions.

Nope same thing. So days of playing the game gone. Sent an email to feral support again and they responded with this: Dear Customer, We are aware that the fix for this issue may cause the loss of progress in the game. So the game got broken by game center, you gave me a work around that allowed me to play the game again, kudos for that, then you created a 'Fix' for the black screen issue that causes the loss of all campaign progress. Sigh, I feel like a beta tester.
