Ok, T40 IBM Thinkpad, it has Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows XP on it, it has the standard wireless chip and for some reason it kills off some days and works perfectly the next. I've picked at the internet to solve this issue, including custom setting the DNS servers to Google's free ones, to no avail. The drivers for the chip (Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B) are current and the XP is SP3.
The issue is the internet itself will have a 'good day' where it will work perfectly, pick up the signal and get full bars and allow me to browse, the next day it will not be the same, it will connect to the network with full bars, but will not allow me to browse, in spite of my desktop being 8 ft. Away and on the same network with full bars and browsing and even playing online games perfectly.
